Meeting your partners parents for the first time will make you nervous. There might be thousands of thoughts running in your mind and also thinking as to what they might think of you. Now one thing you need to remember is they are also as curious as you are to meet you.

There are certain things you should keep in mind before meeting your partners parents for the first time.

Preparation: Try knowing about the before hand like what are their likes? are they conservative? What theyhate the most? their interests and hobbies etc.

Outfit: Choosing the right outfit is important and this depends on what kind of people they are. are they casual or prefer formals and can choose accordingly. Most of the times it is preferable to be simple.

Gifts: Don't forget to carry a gift along with you. It can be anything from a fruit basket or edible goodies to a bunch of flowers.

Body Language & Behavior : This is the most important part of the meeting. Try to be attentive and it's better to lean forward a little and nod to the answers and also use "thank you" and "please". Offer help if they are trying to do something but remember not to over do it or you might seemed liked a programmed computer!
Also keep looking at your partner occasionally for signs and cues.

Conversation: Be alert and listening carefully is the key to have a nice conversation. If you plan to start a conversation, pick a topic that won't get too heated and in case if such a topic is going on, smoothly change the topic. Remember not to talk too much of yourself.  Also be prepared for those questions about your life, education, money and job.

Final Touch: Don't expect to bond in like honey for the first time. Give time to the relation because this is not the last time you are going to meet them. Be yourself and try not overdoing the sweetness and chocolate dripping talks.
